Childsmile

At Millersneuk Dental Practice we are always striving to improve the oral health of young people that visit the practice, providing expert dental care for children. We believe that if we can get dental patients into good habits from a young age, this will prevent the need for fillings in the future.

Millersneuk take part in the nationwide Childsmile campaign – this involves regular trips to the dentist for fluoride application, oral hygiene advice and fissure seals, and is backed up by oral health promotion in schools and nurseries.

The Childsmile programme starts from birth so don’t hesitate to get in contact to register your child today.

No Smoking Day

This year no smoking day is on Wednesday the 13th of March. As health care professionals we actively encourage all our smoking patients to try to stop. We can help provide advice and help with stopping. We want to help anyone in Lenzie, Kirkintilloch or other parts of Glasgow to stop smoking for good this no smoking day.

This year smokers are being encouraged to focus on what they could afford to buy they were to quit for a day (saving £7), a week (£49), a month (£210) and a year (£2,555).

Why quit?

Everybody has their own reason to stop. One of the biggest incentives for smokers to quit comes from considering the real amount of money they spend on cigarettes and thinking about what themselves and their family could afford if they were to give up for good.

Why not stop as part of a move to a healthier lifestyle? As a dental practice we are very aware of the increased risk of oral cancer that smoking brings. Furthermore, smoking causes staining of the teeth and can make gum disease worse.

We have found it quite popular for smokers to book in for an ‘Airflow’ scaling when they are going to stop. This removes the stains that brushing won’t. This can be an incentive to stop as patients do not want to go back to yellow teeth and keep their teeth sparkling.

Why not book in for a check up and we can discuss ways in which might help you quit.

Top 5 reasons for going to your dentist

At Millersneuk we encourage our dental patients to regularly visit the dentist to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Here are our Top 5 reasons for visiting your Millersneuk dentist:

  1. Prevent gum disease
Gum disease can lead to loss of teeth but it can be treated if detected early. Dentists recommend regular check-ups, as well as daily flossing and brushing, to reduce this risk.
  2. Prevent mouth cancer
Mouth cancer kills more people in the UK than cervical or testicular cancer, but is largely preventable – chances of survival increase from 50% to 90% if you detect problems early. Regular trips to your dentist are the best way of monitoring your dental health and catching problems early.
  3. Avoid losing your teeth
Having regular check-ups means that dental problems, can be detected early and dealt with immediately, which could prevent loss of teeth.
  4. Dental emergencies can be prevented
By taking a preventive approach, your dentist can help keep your teeth in the best condition. This can avoid dental emergencies like abscesses, infections or broken teeth.
  5. Help maintain good overall health
If your oral health is good this can help your overall health and wellbeing. Gum disease has been linked with heart disease, strokes and pancreatic cancer. By visiting the dentist regularly you can help keep your teeth in the best condition and minimise these risks.
